Pitch
|
This is our pitch in which we discussed and gave our ideas in what our film is going to be about and done this so we could get improvements in the plot and the making of our opening scene and film. Additionally, we also done our pitch to finalize what we were going to do in it and to show us where we are at with the planning and how to get everything together.
I think our pitch went well we all know what we needed to say and we all knew our specific regions as well as each others which helped us by allowing the pitch to seem very well presented. Throughout our pitch in every region we finalized everything and discovered that there weren't a lot of faults in the planning and this allowed us to proceed through the pitch quicker. After the pitch our idea didn't change much in the plot but changed in the way we were going to set up our location and how we would do it, this is because we wanted to do it in a isolated place but we never thought of where we could able to place it as well as that we noticed that we couldn't use an abandoned building due to health and safety reasons which meant that we changed our location to around Chinatown as we feel that best portrays the characters sense of security he has and the vulnerability he has even in a crowded area. Overall, the pitch was useful this is because it helped us see our faults and build on and improve our ideas about how we were going to go through with everything. As well as that, although our idea didn't change we were able to finalize everything with the pitch and get to finding out more about the small details which are going to make up our opening scene. |
Brand Logo and Intro
Within every successful company there is one thing in common with them. There brands! there logo! immediately when watching a film from a specific company even if you don't have much interest or knowledge within the film producing companies you immediately can see who produced with that in mind we have created a brand logo for our own film. We've called it 'Big Boy Productions' as the word 'Big' portrays the companies ambitions of being the best production company and big in the eye of the audience. Furthermore, the word 'Big Boy' also portrays the companies commitment in the films they produce as 'big boy' can be seen as something important and can be seen as a mature company. However, we haven't made a logo with a certain brand part such as a person or mountain we have chosen to stay with the same type writing to make us stand out from the other companies as we think typography can be important. As well as that, just having the writing with no logo but same font allows us to assign different backgrounds and use different colours to portray the mood and allow a better entrance to the intro as some intros have loud music but start with a slow silent start which doesn't match with the mood.
Storyboard
This is our storyboard this
Screenplay
This our screenplay we will be using and following by while filming our opening sequence.
Location scouting
We used this location to be as our opening scenes first shot because it is a busy area and very crowded in which we can make the audience search for the main character and look for what differentiates him from the other characters. Also, this is a good location to start it as it allows the audience to try to pay more attention to what's happening and can be easier to create tension with as the audience wouldn't know much that's going on and can be surprised.
|
The second location that we chose was also in Chinatown as this place had an alley way that was less crowded in which we can add more dialogue into the scenes and also get the individual characters together in one scene in which the characters can differentiate the good and the bad and try grab an understanding of what is happening. Also, this location can be used to reveal to the characters the different characteristics and personalities the characters possess and how it effects them.
|
This is where our last scene and location will be placed as it helps carry on the theme of classic London type buildings and has a more classic thriller type building with not much floors to go up and is packed close together. This would be a good place to end the scene as it differs from the first two by taking it from Chinatown to a more secluded and isolated area, also it shows it as a normal middle class area which can help create the characters personality and him trying to blend in with normal middle class people not to be to open to people knowing where he lives and question what he does.

Mood board
This is the moodboard for our film i have chosen these pictures as i feel that these pictures portray the following emotions.
- Fear of death
- Adrenaline
- Mystery
Prop list
Here are all the props we want to use in our opening sequence. We only had two props to take with us the fake gun and a phone as we were going to film in Chinatown and everything we were going to use was there already which made it more convenient for us as we had everything around us.
Fake gun - In our movie we want to use the gun as a threat to one of the characters and kill him off. This is because guns are used in most thrillers and action movies to build the adrenaline of the film and to put fear in the victims mind and show to the audience the vulnerability of the other character who on the opposite side of the gun.
|
Phone - We are going to use this to let our main character Ugi get a phonecall from someone else who isn't going to be said in the opening sequence. We are going to use a phone because phones are used in many thrillers to leave clues and information to a character to inform of a danger or threaten but in this case it is going to be to inform about another characters whereabouts.

Casting shot
Ugurcan Kaya as Ugi
We've chosen Ugurcan Kaya to be our main character because as well as being involved in many drama projects he is confident and is use to acting in short plays. Also, with him having a natural nice beard he has the look of a young 16-18 year old teenager who is seen as an average teenager in Hackney.
Dogus Meter (Myself) The reason i picked myself to act is because i didn't have a large role to play and we needed actors. Also, i have similar physical characteristics of being tall and same skin colour as Ugurcan which can suggest the stereotype of how most people of different races have the same skin coloured or surround themselves with people from the same country. |
Berkay Cetinkaya as Berks
I have chosen Berkay to play as Berks as he shares the same features as all of us and he is generally smaller than everyone else making it easier for him to be able to act as a victim as his small person characteristics can make him more vulnerable to people bigger than him. |
Actor release form
|
This is our actor release form so that we have the right to use our actor Ugurcan Kaya in our movie. We only had one actor release form because Berkay and myself are part of the group therefore we do not need an actor release form.

Shot list
This is the shot list to which we wanted to record our opening sequence. We made a shot list to save us time when we were there as we would have a plan and idea of what to record first and what order we want to do it all to save time and also make it look more sophisticated as we would know what we are doing better and can practice the different shots in the shot list before doing them.
Costume list
This is going to be the clothes of the antagonist the people part of a bigger group. The reason behind dressing the antagonists like this is because when you watch movies with people who are part of a big bad organization normal wear similar clothing and seeing as ours is a more modern group of antagonist we thought wearing smart and sophisticated clothing can suggest the power of the group as in many films the way a person is dressed can give a lot away in terms of the power they have.

Shooting schedule
This is our shooting schedule of where we are going to film and for how long to minimize the time spent filming and to be more efficient.
Risk Assessment
|
This our groups risk assessment were we tried to identify the different hazards that can affect us during filming and we assessed the severity that each risk possesses us with 1 being the lowest and 3 the highest. |
Typography
In this i am going to discuss the choice in which font we wanted to put and why we chose it and the different typography we are going to have for title and credits.
Sound design
Diegetic sounds/Foley tracks used
For sound editing our group editor (Berkay Cetinkaya) went on YouTube and found different foley tracks we can put in our opening sequence. For the most the diegetic sounds we use when walking are going to be from the foley tracks we found such as the gun slide and desert eagle sound effect is because the fake gun we bought makes no sound or doesn't have a gun slide therefore we needed sound to match what we were going to do with it. Also, for some of the diegetic sound we are putting the london streets and British police siren sound effects because the camera could only get some of the ambient sounds to a certain quality level which we found was not good enough as we found more sound effects that suit the atmosphere. However, for something like the dialogue we are using the sound we have got from the camera's microphone as we found it to pick up all the sound and was quite nice also the camera was quite close during the dialogue therefore it wasn't needed much to create a foley track over it.

Non-diegetic sounds
For the non-diegetic sound we went on Yookamusic as they had the music we wanted at the right tempo of how we want the opening sequence to flow for the audience. These soundtracks are going to be added to the background and are going to be used firstly the first one 'Pulse Generator' during the establishing shots and the intro of the antagonist 'Ugi'. The first soundtrack is going to be used then because the 1st soundtrack has a fairly nice energetic tempo to start the opening sequence off with and suits the environment he is in.
As well as that, we are going to use the 2nd soundtrack 'No End In Sight' when the main antagonist 'Ugi' is walking around Chinatown and chasing the other character 'Berks' as we think the sound starts off slowly when 'Ugi' is locating 'Berks' then goes with a fast tempo to build adrenaline up to the chase and carry on this adrenaline when the chase is happening as the beat/tempo of the scene becomes faster. |

Camera skills
For camera skills i went over all the rules i should abide and went over all the different shots and angles i can use for which effects as i was also going to be a cameraman as well as director. This was an important part of practice we needed as we had to do preliminary tasks 2 times before getting it right and during the filming of this we needed to minimize the amount of times we had to re-film as we wanted the shots to be perfect for our final piece. Furthermore, as well as revising my different camera shots i also watched worldwide known opening sequences like the Dark Knight Bank Robbery Scene i done this to see the variety of shots they used and how i can implement them into my own opening scene as these films are remembered for there opening scenes which is why it would be good for me to watch and gain knowledge from what they've done.
